Welcome to the Droxford School Governor’s Web Page. The Governors are very proud of the school and are keen to support the staff and children in their work. The official role of the governing body is to be a ‘critical friend’. This is achieved through meetings which are held twice-termly, and where the management of the school is discussed in detail. The governors also attend committee meetings. The Curriculum Committee looks at all aspects of the children’s learning and well-being. The Resources Committee monitors the financial and personnel issues, as well as dealing with the upkeep of the buildings and grounds. The full minutes of all the meetings are available from the school office. Some recent key actions have been: meeting the Financial Management Standards in Schools (FMSIS) set by Government; achievement of Enhanced Healthy Schools Status, and the launch of the Gifted and Talented Programme.
The governors are also responsible for appointing the Head Teacher and assisting with the appointment of staff. Governors regularly attend training sessions to understand their role, and to ensure they are fully informed of the latest developments in education. They particularly benefit from, and enjoy, helping out in school; listening to children read, helping with the grounds, and meeting with the staff. There are 13 governor posts; 3 Community Governors, 4 Parent Governors, 2 Staff Governors, 3 LEA Governor, and 1 Associate Governor. The Head Teacher also attends all the meetings. The governors have a Chair, a Deputy Chair and a Clerk. Each governor serves a fixed term; some are appointed and some are elected.
