Governors of Droxford Junior School are very proud of the school and are keen to support the staff and children. We work very closely as a team with Ross Irving and his staff. The official role of the Governing Body is to be a “critical friend” and governors have responsibility for the effective management of the school. Governors do not make decisions about the day-to-day running of the school but rather set the strategic direction.

The full Governing Body meet at least twice per term and the two main subcommittees, the Curriculum Committee and the Resources Committee, also meet twice termly. The full minutes of all the meetings are available from the school office.

The Curriculum Committee looks at all aspects of the children’s learning and well-being while the Resources Committee monitors the financial and personnel issues, as well as dealing with the upkeep of the buildings and grounds. All Governors are encouraged to regularly attend training sessions to understand their role and to ensure they are fully informed of the latest developments in education.

There are 11 Governor posts comprising LEA, Parent, Community and Staff Governors. Any Parent Governor vacancies will be advertised and all parents will have the opportunity to put their name forward for election. If any parent is interested in becoming a Governor please contact the Clerk to the Governors as detailed on the last page.

Last year we were sorry to say goodbye to Dr Roy Birch who retired after being a Governor of Droxford Junior School for 12 years and Chair of Governors for 8 years. Mike Keegan has been elected as the new Chair with Ted Shaw as his Deputy.  We were also sorry to say goodbye to Reverend Jim Foley and Graeme Donaldson who have both been governors for a number of years.
